Through Bishop to Lone Pine, time to go climbing.........

Visited the Mountain Light Studio in Bishop on the way south.  Great to see the work of the late acclaimed mountain and outdoor photographer Galen Rowell displayed so well. We booked 3 nights at Lone Pine, as I planned a hike and climb into the Sierras. Ended up summitting Irvine Peak at 13,500 feet (or so), and camping by an alpine lake at 11,500 feet.  Temperature was rather cool, at about 20-25 Fahrenheit (-7 to -5 Celsius).
Sunrise from our motel on the Eastern Sierras and Mt Whitney

A cactus growing at 8000 feet

The high valley of Meysan Lake, my destination

The trail was mixed granite and snow

Pines at about 10,000 feet

Camp lake, which froze over during the night

Lone Pine Peak and Meysan Lake from Irvine Peak

Meysan Lake

Looking across to Mt Whitney which was about 1000 feet higher, the highest mountain in the contiguous US at about 14,500 feet

A scary sight in the morning, and very cold

A Mountain Lion paw print near my camp.  There is plenty of wild life here from squirrels, goats, deer, lions, and bears.
