Started our road trip, driving up Highway 101 through Ventura, then on to Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, and overnighting at San Simeon. While at San Simeon we visited the Hearst Castle, built by William Randolf Hearst in the early 20th Century, a millionaire (billionaire in today's money) who made his fortune in news papers. The castle is an eclectic mix of early European architecture which he collected on his extensive travels, and had built into this place.
